Natural wood flooring is both a traditional and modern feature of American homes and the right colors and treatment can really bring your spaces together. Old Village can create beautiful and unique finishes for your floors, from historic colonial era quarter sawn wide plank floors - to reclaimed old growth wood floors - to contemporary homes with exotic (or traditional) wood.
There are a number of treatments that can help your floor either stand out or be a neutral part of your design.
Fuming is a reactive stain process developed during the 19th century to give oak and some other high tannin woods an aged look by causing the tannins in wood to darken after exposure to ammonia. We can bring this same beautiful effect to your floors, walls or other surfaces in your home without the use of dangerous chemicals. This effect is seen on the floor above and on the wall panels below.

Pickling ~ Bleaching
Pickling or bleaching oak, or other light-colored woods, is a method of infusing the wood with an even lighter color – white or sometimes a very light grey – that gives the piece an almost ethereal glow. The effect is popular in many parts of the world: the American South, Scandinavia, and Northern Europe especially. These treatments can be used on floors, cabinets, exterior and even ceilings as shown below.
Cerused or Liming
The Old Village Design Studio uses modern, safe, non-toxic materials to bring a beautiful and unique Cerused Oak look to your floors, doors, cabinets, or stairs.
